Plum tree

We had our plum tree cut down this week. It was growing into the power lines and was a very messy tree, so we asked the electric company to take it down.

Here are before and after pictures.

Obviously, it's very sunny in our backyard now. My job now is to pick a tree or trees to replace it so we can have some shade again.

I don't think our yard is going to have shade for a while since it will take a tree at least a couple years to get big enough after we plant it. But it will be nice that this was the last year I have to deal with the mess of the plum tree. Oh, and if you ever have the electric company cut down your tree, as a "Free" service, make sure you specify that you don't want them to ruin your lawn and expect that they clean up all the debris afterwards... I got a good two yard debris containters full and more to rake up when they get emptied this week.

Bamboo makes shade quickly, but it needs a trench for a barrier dug for it. But then maybe you don't care for bamboo. Norway maples grow fast, but probably too tall.

Wow that sure looks different; looks like maybe your lawn will do better with more sun. Looks good; even bigger; I like the way it looks. Once you decide on a tree we know it will be the right one and will look good. A couple of things to think about when it comes to getting a tree is one that sheds once a year, that has a root system that grows down and does not have surface roots that sprout every time you mow the lawn. When you find out what kind of tree that is, let me know! As soon as I transfer my phone pictures of the deck to the computer I'll put some on my blog.
